White Houses says EU, US to reduce energy dependency on Russia
WASHINGTON, Nov 7 (PRIME) -- The E.U. to continue diversification of natural gas imports, while the U.S. is still ready to substitute supplies from Russia with their own energy exports, Brussels and Washington said in a joint statement published by the White House on Monday.
The U.S.–E.U. Task Force on Energy Security met in Washington on November 3 to discuss implementation of diversification of the E.U. natural gas supplies.
“The E.U.’s resolve to diversify its natural gas supplies and reduce overall natural gas use, as stated in the RePowerEU Plan, is unequivocal. Close partnership between the E.U. and the United States on energy matters offers opportunities for both sides to accelerate the clean energy transition and, also curtails Russia’s energy revenues,” the statement read.
In January–October, the U.S. exported 48 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the E.U., up from 26 billion cubic meters exported in the entire year of 2021. In 2023, exports of LNG from the U.S. to the E.U. should jump by 50 billion cubic meters as compared with 2021, the White House said.
